The Resort has teamed up with iconic video gaming character, Sonic The Hedgehog, to be the new face of the ride Sonic Spinball, opening on 13th February 2010.

Since 1991, SEGA has sold more than 60 million copies of computer games featuring Sonic The Hedgehog worldwide. Famous for his incredible speed and spin attack, this gaming icon is the ideal character to re-launch Spinball Whizzer.

Spinball Whizzer was one of Alton Towers Resort’s much loved attractions. Opened in 2004 and with an impressive drop of 54 feet, the coaster gives each rider a unique experience by spinning and dropping in different directions, allowing you to ping and spring your way around this pinball-themed twisted track that is full of surprises!

Alton Towers Resort’s guests will also have the chance to relax in the Sonic The Hedgehog room at the Alton Towers hotel. The rooms will be fully themed around the Sonic universe. Guests can also enjoy playing the latest Sonic games in the dedicated gaming area of the room.

Pirates Landing is a brand new land opening at LEGOLAND Windsor in March 2010, the third land in as many years. Children can learn swashbuckling and seafaring skills at a Pirates Training Camp, then climb aboard the new Jolly Rocker swinging pirate ship - a huge unique LEGO Galleon - that swings to 18 metres high for the ride of their life. Wannabe Pirates can find their sea legs on the Pirate Falls Dynamite Drench water ride and experience explosive effects and interactive water cannons, controlled by visiting landlubbers, this classic LEGOLAND favourite has been given a whole new spin for the new decade.  

LEGOLAND Windsor’s famous Stunt Show has also had a major revamp and now stars pirates and features their swaggering exciting adventures in this magnificent new stunt extravaganza entitled ‘Pirates of Skeleton Bay’.

And as if that wasn’t enough, in “LEGO City A Clutch Powers 4D Adventure”, wannabe adventurers can watch Clutch Powers and his brick building gang take on a special mission to save the world in an action-packed new ten minute 4-D movie. This film can only be seen at a LEGOLAND park.

Her inclusion will be yet another accolade for the ever youthful Dame, who has won numerous awards in a career spanning five decades, including four Baftas, four Emmys and a Best Actress Oscar in 2007 for The Queen.

Mirren is one of the most prolific and versatile performers in the world with a diverse body of work.  Her performance as Tolstoy’s wife Sofya in the forthcoming film The Last Station, has earned her a Best Actress nomination for both the Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards taking place later this month.  With other titles including The Debt and The Tempest due for release over the coming months, she is set to continue to enthral audiences in 2010.

The actress will look her sophisticated best in a floor length black dress by Asprey which she donated to the attraction.  The gown was originally worn at the ITV3 Crime Thriller Awards and is teamed with black six inch heels.  She has already given a sitting for the Madame Tussauds studios team, where over 300 measurements and a catalogue of reference shots were taken; the figure will take four months to create and will cost £150,000.

    The world’s most famous detective will return to Baker Street this Christmas as Madame Tussauds announces plans for a new figure of Robert Downey Jr. as the legendary Sherlock Holmes.  In celebration of the Boxing Day release of the action adventure mystery “Sherlock Holmes,” Madame Tussauds has partnered with Warner Bros. Pictures on a new exhibit of the legendary detective as portrayed in the film by Robert Downey Jr. 

    The figure of Downey as Holmes will recreate the strikingly modern image created for the film, with a penetrating stare, tousled hair and dapper black and grey suit, waistcoat and cravat. In addition, Madame Tussauds will enjoy touch of Victorian Christmas charm – with Christmas trees, decorations and a host of seasonal surprises. 

    Downey as Holmes joins a whole host of other celebrities at the world famous attraction this Christmas. The new £15m ride is billed to be the scariest in the UK and will join a long line of world first attractions at the Alton Towers Resort including "Nemesis", "Oblivion" and "Air".

    Thirteen will be based on the discovery of an unearthed ancient burial site in an area of unexplored woodland known as the Dark Forest. Built on the site of the old Corkscrew rollercoaster, guests will be invited to take a petrifying ride on Thirteen, venturing into the seemingly living and breathing Dark Forest. There they will face an unknown horror that has been unleashed from the ancient crypt.

    The ride has been developed with the world's leading coaster and thrill consultants who have collaborated to combine the ultimate elements of physical and psychological fear - to create what experts are dubbing a ‘psychoaster’.

    The new technology will be the first of its kind in the world and will potentially make the ride so frightening that the Resort is considering introducing a controversial age-rating. Only visitors between the ages of 16-55 will be allowed on the ride due to concerns about emotional maturity and physical health. Visitors may also be limited to one ride per day and be required to sign a waiver which assures the Resort of their physical and mental health to avoid any resulting lawsuits.

    • Built on a burial site that is part of the original Alton Abbey, Thirteen will be themed around a crypt, with one of the main features of the ride taking place inside the unearthed crypt

    The singer, who releases her new album ‘Echo’ next month, is portrayed clutching a microphone about to burst into song and guests are invited to get up close and personal and join the performance on stage.  Looking every inch the glamorous diva, Leona wears a short sparkling silver dress set off by a pair of 5 inch satin stilettos.  Her hair is casually tousled over her shoulders.     

    Liz Edwards, PR Manager for Madame Tussauds London, said:  “We are thrilled to welcome Leona to Madame Tussauds and her arrival confirms her status as a true international superstar.  She will be a wonderful addition to the Music Zone, claiming her place alongside fellow “Queens of Pop” like Britney Spears, Amy Winehouse and Kylie Minogue.”

Wearing an opulent, full length gold evening gown she looks every inch the sophisticated style icon. Her hair, formerly casually tousled over her shoulders, is restyled in a more sophisticated “up do” pulled back from her face which is made up with a bolder colour palette. But in keeping with her bohemian side, the trend setting super model’s feet are bare

    Moss is joined by America’s Next Top Model’s Tyra Banks, making a short visit from Madame Tussauds New York.   The model-turned-TV presenter is also dressed to kill in a floor-length black gown with a plunging neckline and feather detail on both shoulders.

    General Manager, David Smith, commented: “We felt it only fitting to celebrate in style with our guests as we say goodbye to Beanoland. We expect the custard pie fight to break all previously held records and to go down in history as the custard pie fight to end all custard pie fights! Once we have cleared up all of the mess, we will be closing Beanoland for the last time to make way for Chessington’s exciting 2010 plans which will be announced in due course.”

    The custard pie’s will be sold for £1 each and all proceeds will be donated to Merlin’s Magic Wand charity.

    The dress worn by Leona at the closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympics and designed by students at the London College of fashion has been donated for her wax figure to wear. Boasting more 4D sensory effects than any other attraction in the UK, visitors will feel like they are really there; with wind in their hair, snow falling at their feet, the floor shaking and even a sense of smell, their new perspective on London will be truly memorable.  

    The four minute film focuses on the journey of a little girl and her father in London in which they visit the London Eye and enjoy a spectacular take on the capital, viewing it from a bird‘s eye perspective. Their experience is brought to life with vibrant 3D images of colourful parties and events inside the London Eye capsules, dramatic firework displays, a snowfall over the city, revolutionary aerial footage of other iconic landmarks and sophisticated, fun 4D effects. Set to the music of international artists Coldplay and Goldfrapp, the film provides a completely new vision of the city and the perfect prelude to a flight on the iconic London Eye.  

    This new bespoke film is also the first live action 4D project ever filmed and produced in the UK, and was developed especially for the London Eye at the award winning Pinewood Shepperton studios by a team of industry acclaimed talent who have worked on projects such as the IMAX film Bugs!
